The new series of the BBC’s The Apprentice kicked off last night with a good showing by WeCanDo.Biz member Gavin Winstanley of Glasses123.co.uk.

As business people, we all seem to enjoy The Apprentice.  It’s not so much that we think we’ll learn anything from it, but that it’s entertainment in a context that we all understand.

Series 7 kicked off last night with the usual selection of over confident, ego-centric numpties and it will be a few shows until we get to see who has the real talent amongst the group and the favourites emerge.

Someone who did put in a fairly good performance last night, however, was WeCanDo.Biz member and optician Gavin Winstanley from Liverpool.  Putting himself forward as project manager (it went to maverick accountant and David Brent wannabe Edward Hunter), he was one of only a few amongst the bravado of a first challenge versus the girls to sound caution.  His dessent got him brought back into the boardroom next to a bitter Edward when the boys ultimately failed in their task to produce the largest return on £250 spent only on fruit and vegetables, but Lord Sugar questioned his place there and sent him out with something almost approaching a commendation.  It is Edward who holds the ignominious title of first one fired.

But Gavin… the boy did well!
