The Facebook Developer Garage and what we’ve got coming next

I am not a software developer myself (if anything, our developers hide when they see me they as know I’m about to ask them to do something ridiculous/impossible), but I went along last night to the Facebook Developer Garage near St Pancras in London to get a view of what they are working on and how it might help our own users.

It was an interesting evening with some great examples of how Facebook Connect is being used by other software developers.

For those unfamiliar with Facebook Connect, it is a way to enable other sites across the web to share information with Facebook.  You can use it sign people in to your own website (as we do here); to grab additional information from Facebook such as their friendships; and to post items back to Facebook to appear in that persons news stream along with their updates from the Facebook site itself.

We enabled Facebook sign in to WeCanDo.BIZ some months back and for those who sign into our site using an existing third party identity it accounts for 25% of sign ins.

Next up for us is introduing Facebook Connect benefits to our Social CRM add-on, WeCanDoCRM.

We’ll be adding the ability to easily fetch over your Facebook contacts for upload into WeCanDoCRM so you can track activity and keep notes on your discussions with those contacts as individuals, whether they represent business or not.

We’ll also be adding to ability to condolidate your Facebook contacts with contacts you have in your email, on LinkedIn or Ecademy (or others), so you can build a more comprehensive single profile on who you know.  What this means is that if you have a contact on Facebook who you also have on LinkedIn, the information shown in both their public profiles on those sites will be brouht together in one customer record on WeCanDoCRM so you have a single view of all you know about them.

Facebook contact importing will be ready for you to use later this month.  Ahead of then, come and activate your free WeCanDoCRM account and also check out our existing import options (which include LinkedIn, Ecademy, KashFlow, Google, Windows Live and soon to be added Twitter).
