“What are you doing?” asks micro-blogging site Twitter when you log in.  And it’s easy to write off the social network for some of the answers it gets back from the uninitiated — and let’s be fair, who DOES want to know that their contacts are eating Marmite on toast, or waiting for a train, or hating the rain, or…

But if these are the messages you read from your contacts on Twitter then you are following the wrong people.  Twitter now has over 6 million users, including a large number of industry experts and an even larger number of potential customers.  To ignore it as a medium for growing your own knowledge or for marketing purposes is to turn down what could prove to be a valuable, yet free resource.

The problem with Twitter is that in spite of its ridiculous simplicity (you simply share information in 140 characters or less with your network of contacts) it is hard to use well.  But I found a useful guide on how to get started for business people this morning that I’d like to share.

Make sure you follow us on Twitter after you’ve joined for useful tips as well as a live feed of sales leads from WeCanDo.BIZ!  You can find us here.
